Bob and I discovered this yarn at the Canby, Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival this past September (2006). In fact, we even got to meet some of the alpaca who had contributed their fleece to its beauty (they were soooo pretty and sweet)!

We had stopped by a booth conveniently parked next to the alpacas we were admiring. The booth belonged to Christine Riley of Upstream Alpacas and showcased all manner of alpaca yarn and beautiful items knit for her farm store. It also happens that Christine is a member of the America's Alpacas Board of Directors. When we told her about Naturesong Yarn, she showed us not only this beautiful natural-color DK alpaca yarn by Vintage (commissioned by America's Alpacas), but also several sweaters and hats she had knit with it.

We were swept of our feet and completely in love! We had never seen alpaca yarn of such excellent quality, and in natural colors, too! The twist is perfect for the fiber, the colors rich and complex as only nature can make them, and the hand soft, smooth, lightweight (in other words, perfect). Christine had a child's gansey she had made with it: it was so "right" for that style that we were ready to believe alpaca's thrived along the British coast!

Then, there's the price. Astonishingly low. $12 a skein is what we would expect to pay for much more rustic, lower quality alpaca. North American efficiency and a lack of extraordinary distances to get the yarn to the knitter combine to make truly affordable excellence.
